did nothing in camp today except sleeping around. sick of being sick la. so didnt pack my bag until the last minute. forgot to pack my shaver. hmm.
as i typed this i've just came back from lunch at cp. feels great to eat lunch at mos burger alone with a book. now there's a fine line between being alone, and being lonely, isnt it. fine, but still there. already i can think of instances when i'm alone but not lonely, and feeling lonely when i'm not alone. i'm sure you can think of a few instances yourself too. also, got my hair cut, borrowed some novels from the library to read in india.
(paperback novels are good, as they fit into the side poclet of no.4 pants haha.)
remembered to not buy things that i want to buy but aint supposed to buy (magic the gathering lorwyn tourny pack and a few games at the arcade) but forgot to buy things that i'm supposed to buy (a shaver and 2 number locks.) hmmmmm.
now after lunch, i'm in a slept-too-much-so-cant-sleep-anymore-but-still-kinda-sleepy kinda mood. hmm. so wasted time reading gaiman's american gods and wasting time in facebook and treating my hse like a kbox.
gaiman's real funny! i'm hooked. anansi boys he was really really funny la, but in american gods you can see a lil darkness in it, just an undercurrent, so you'll laugh when you're reading it, and when you close the book you rmb that it isnt that funny if it happened to you. creepy, but good. gaiman quotes all kinds of gods, big and small, young and old, so you see gothic norse gods joining forces with egyptian gods and buddhas to fight against modern gods, like mr fame, mr fortune, and the young kid technology in american gods. haha. there was this little episode that happened in anansi boys that had me cracking up for days:
"so this guy went up to Jesus as He and His disciples were handing out the bread and fish, and he asked Him, since he was allergic to seafood, could He just whip up a chicken salad for Him?"
gaiman doesnt say what happened to the guy, and i wonder about it too hahaha.
so later going to prayer meet. weiwu says he has leftover rupees haha.
i'm sorry, kelly. i just cant keep anything away from that man haha. i dont think it's going to snow... yeah. it's too dry to rain anything! and hello batty, long time no see. both in the online and real-life sense haha. how's things?

feeling like shit the whole weekend. must be cause i was caught in the rain during outfield on friday. =(
am not really looking forward to the india trip. not like the excitement, the buzz i had before going thailand. hmm. have a bad feeling about this. delaying packing my duffle bag till the very last minute.
went nus for a talk on early matriculation on sat. also present are zihao seetoh jiawei chaisen and kohji. talked cock after that, while eating at vivo's superdog. realized that contrary to what i've always felt, i have made friends in camp. just that when i see them in camp i always felt very sian, it's due to the location instead of pple. well there are still pple that i dont want to see anywhere, but the situation isnt unbearable. still not very sure to go for special term or not, still praying about it. but thanks to pple who i've pestered for advice: janey, xhui, and mr woodford!
aaron may try reading marcus' blog if you're curious hah. and yes kelly, this is our secret heh.

yet another weekend gone. hmm.
kelly: erm okay hello haha. actually i can guess when it's melvin and when it's you la, just that i dont expose you only ha.
FA: precisely. shut up, navi. dont rub it in la haha, i'm sad enough as it is. and yep marcus' right. yes i agree that in a perfect world, faith will be unwavering and number one in all our lives. however in this fallen world, with a mind tainted with sin, man simply cannot hold onto faith based on his own abilities. in fact mushi just spoke a lil on this on sat's WBS: pple tend to think of faith as something a person declares himself to be, like "okay i believe in whatever". but if from a biblical view, is it possible for man to find God, just based on his own efforts, without any help from God? the same way that we can only know about Him what He chooses to reveal to us about Himself, man cannot expect his faith to stay strong if God doesn't help out in some ways. temptations are but part of satan's arsenal to always try and lead us astray, to bring us back to the ways of the world, and forget about our identity, as a child of God. hope this helps prod your thinking along in some way, and that you'll be encouraged to clear your doubts here. =) and erm robert, (marcus pls correct me if i'm wrong on this theological stuff) yes of course overcoming temptations can also brings up one's faith, when he realises that he has done something that pleases God, and when he understands that our God's a loving God, that will not allow temptations to whack us to such an extent that we'll not be able to withstand it. having said that, i dont think God's the source of temptations and trials; satan is, God just allows it to happen, having seen that down the road in the future it'll be ultimately good for us. which brings us to the movie ypf screened on sat, but later on that.
start from friday bah. had another battery cohesion, healthier this time compared to the last time at shin bar. went to east coast to have bbq and play games like volleyball and soccer... cut only when it rained. hmm. went home to just rot in front of the com... too late to make it on time for the friday BS. surprise surprise, xiaohui appeared at my door cause she had to send my sister up. =/
saturday, played soccer in the morning, even though it rained. sispec does great things to pple, like ivan and victor haha. i still cant really nail my dribbling. scored only one despite having a handful of chances. hmm. next sat morning match! looking forward to it =)
then crashed ypf to watch this documentary, about this guy who when he was 3, was stuck in the family car that burst into flames, causing him to be seriously burnt. he really looked very scarred and dont really know how to describe la. just very jia lat la. but the wonderful thing is he still makes the most out of his life, living in Christ, for Christ. and the climax was the courtroom scene, when they caught the guy who crashed his lorry on their car. we're reminded of the promise that we make always during the Lord's Supper: "forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
today is the 大"洗"之日 of tingting enhong and hongliang! it's the 2nd time i've been at a baptism, the first being ranran and yaoqi's. its a great reminder of His grace and His presence among us, working among us, on us. yep.
another week in camp. think most likely another bty ex and the usual soc/ippt regime. sian... hah. why i dont have hari raya holiday! hahaha...

yep, after all the briefings this week, can really smell the curry powder alr. golandas complex is so much worse than saiyokcamp... i dont think i'll have a chance to spend rupees haha. weather's like thailand while i was there, hot in the morning, cold at night, no cloud cover cause it's very dry, leading to the high diurnal temperature range. muahahha yeah i still rmb my geog stuff even though i'm a D =P
robert the rabbit: i'm used to it, dont worry. counting down... 5+months to ORD loh...
ryan: i'm okay lar. still very jealous that you get to make friends with felicia chin, though. muahaha.
wifey: awwwww. you still remember. touched. do meet up again soon!
FA: hey, i'd rather be doing ocip than wasting money blowing up trees and the occasional unfortunate herd of cows. heh. but yup, amen to that. thanks man =)
navi: your tag leads me to introducing my latest potential-hooker: facebook! really a darn good timewaster, you shld try it when you're bored. you might end up wasting time on it so much so that nothing else gets done haha.
and now we're on the topic of distractions. first it was darius telling me how he sold his psp because it was bringing him away from God. example like playing your psp the whole night, when you shld really take at least an hour or so to do some QT. and talking about hostel life; my campmates are all quite excited at the prospect of staying in (again) but it'll be infintely better than a SAF camp lar. and miss ho shared with me her experiences, having stayed in KR for a year. time management, pple management, beliefs management. example cited was this fren of hers who just didnt how to say "no i dont want to play money on mahjong"
i guess camp life's about much the same. although my feud with the lotus flower clan (look at past issues for more of them haha) has pretty much simmered down, they're actually in fact just changing tactics. no more mass tanks and troops style ala first gulf war style, but they're now operating more along the lines of the viet cong and the iraqi insurgents. so yes the spiritual battles are still very real. how to say no when pple ask you along for a smoke/drink/geylang chicken special? to go out with friends for a movie or to church for prayer meet on a wednesday nights out? how to explain why you're doing what you're doing when everyone's slacking and asking "eh, jerry, you work so hard for f***?"
i'm guessing it's just how you manage it lor. and i give thanks to God for always being there when i need His leading. this is the beautiful thing about Christianity i guess; no other religion will teach about a god willing to bring himself down to hold your hand when you cry out for him. no matter if it's a psp, fooling around in facebook.com, hostel life, or camp life. i know who's boss in all things, and His grace is sufficient for me. =)
