liz sms-ed me to ask when will be a good time to have arts comm meeting next week, and i realise that when i'm outside, i couldnt reply her. i needed to refer to my google calendar. which is such a fantastic invention haha. and when i came back and did a online survey i realise that i'm really quite reliant on technology. =x

"rest through recreation"
sermon text: "Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself. But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank." "When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, "Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him." Aaron answered them, "Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me." So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt." the pulpit theme for the month of june's on godly leisure, or rather, how do saints view and engage in entertainment. not a very good translation but my head's swimming with such stuff alr =x and i'm typing this to take a break from my article so... argh. haha. okay. anyway.
leisure shouldnt be seen as wasting time, or time that we engage in only because we have nothing else better to do. however, a recent phenomena is that people spend more and more time, money, and energy to go on overseas tours, come back, and find themselves even more drained and tired. this is an effect of utilitarianism, where the goodness of every decision is measured by its outcome, of how much utility has been derived out from it. the ends has justified the means, although the means would have meant that the intended end cannot be reached. now, for every action, we look at it through the lenses of cost-benefit analysis, picking the one with the lowest cost that gives us the highest utility.
but that was not God's original intention for work and leisure. (am reminded of jasmine's sharing during FT for this actually haha.) work first appears not after the fall of man, but before it, when in Gen 1:28 God commands man to "fill the earth and subdue it"
