thinking of the sermons the past weekend , with its focus on talents and using them for God. and thus also am thinking about my own ministry, how things have changed in the past half year, where i am now, and where i'm going.
when i first entered NUS i spent 5 out of 7 days in the church office, and my CF cell was my refuge, where i can slack. now, i feel like a full-time CF-er part-time student sometimes, and i spent barely 4 hours in church the whole week. why's that? am i just but swinging from one extreme to another? yes, if i think that CF and my home church are different entities.
but i don't. and they shouldn't. both are very much part of the body of Christ, the catholic church.
and so i realize that it's true: it is only that God enables the called and gives them the gifts which one needs to get what one is called to do at one time, and that also, since one's role and ministry is subject to change, so does one's gifting. for example, i find that without serving in the choir i'm losing my ability to sing. not that i could sing very well to begin with, but i can feel the difference.
and so now i found that i've picked up photography. and really liking it. and now i'm blessed with a camera. it's amazing how i have it now actually, when i didn't even ask for it. but by God's amazing ways (and i've got to say that He really DOES have His ways) it's landed into my hands. so what do i do with it now?
i was at National Geographic at vivo just now, and there was a mini exhibition going on, of gorgeous pictures of polar bears and penguins. truly spectacular, and it bears testament to the wonders of God's creation.
nah i'm not that pro aha. so why do i shoot?
a brother in church is going through a particularly tough time now. i didn't think of it at that time when i was shooting his toddler daughter (and she's a fantastic model btw), but as i sit at home editing the pics, i think, can i use my pictures to bring joy to people? and remind people of the blessings that is still around?
i think similarly of the pictures that i have of my friends, of events, of laughs, of even unglam poses. the saying that goes "God made the picture, i just press the shutter" does really hold true. if not, try making your own human being to shoot the next time haha. (i'm reading Frankenstein hence the example :x )
can i use my pictures to tell a story as well? to give voice to the powerless? i think of the pictures that i took in the philippines. yes, a lot a lot of pictures. so much so that we could make a video out of it. half the time i didnt even know what to shoot, kuya randy pointed them out to me. the other half of the time i didnt count on the things that i ended up shooting, cause they just popped up. but still i'm glad they did.
am excited at whatever's going to come next. i don't know what. but i'm waiting with anticipation. because God is good, all the time. :)
